This could probably start all sorts of flaming and discussion, but this would be the single most important open source project for Linux, if it were to happen. I would love to see an X-Windows replacement project which would basically be DirectFB under the hood "wrapping" the X-Tookit/Intrinsic calls. It would put to rest ALL of the "Linux can't make it on the desktop" arguments. Of course this would have to be from an organization like TrollTech (Qt) or Ximian (Gnome) to be successful. As someone who uses Linux for my business (all my servers are Deb based), but have had to deploy Windows on the desktop. The main reason we never moved to Linux on the desktop was of X. Its just too cumbersome and really isn't geared towards the average "novice" user. To defend X is to know that it was never meant to be what it is today, people didn't have "the desktop" in mind when they created X-Windows, they had the "network computer" in mind -- it just so happened that it (X) had a wonderfully simple widget set and had the windowing capabilities to build on -- or was it that it was the only game in town at the time?? Either way, an X replacement is LONG overdue... Wouldn't it be wonderful to be able to take the KDE3 environment and recompile under a lightweight "DirectFB Desktop Server" and have all the capabilities at better performance, less configuration, and less headache! >Salut, Sven -- Info: To unsubscribe send a mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with "unsubscribe directfb-users" as subject. --- Incoming mail is certified Virus Free.
