I use "make insert" (with Makefile modified to reflect desired mode) from
the directory where I checked out and built the CVS version. "make insert"
loads the module with an absolute path, AFAICS.

How can I doublecheck that I am really trying to load the correct one?

I have never downloded anything from VIA, so unless it is included in the
ubuntu kernel, I am pretty sure I don't try to load VIA's driver.
