Thanks for your help - I think I follow it, but what would be in the
Kconfig file?

Dennis suggested a Kconfig file *or* an environment variable; is that right?

My first question about the viafb is what's causing me real problems at
the moment . I've updated to DirectFB-1.1.1 and reinstalled Links but
know I get an error message which states that a depth of 4 is not
permitted even though the colour depth of the video mode is set to 32.
I've tried to change the mode in fb.modes but I still get the same error
message. I'm on the verge of returning to the vesafb. Is it worth
using a viafb? Will I be able to get some acceleration using the right
driver?

I'm unable to send the output at present as I'm away from that computer,
but I'd really appreciate some interim help regarding which driver to
use. When I compiled DirectFB it installed the Unichrome driver as
opposed to the CLE266. Is that the correct driver to use? As I say
I've used the VT8623 driver that came with the kernel. Maybe that's not
the best one to use but I can only find kernel modules as alternatives.

TIA

Richard
