What confuses me is that I am back on debian "lenny" aka "stable",

how the libraries were pulled, and when.
Probably libcairo, which is used by various software do to the
rendering of complex 2D.
Yes, very likely.
You can check it with aptitude navigating in the ncurses interface.
I don't suppose you are familiar with debian, but I think I
understand enough now to check with the debian-user mailing list and
see if anyone there is using DirectFB
Did you looked at my message about RFP for XDirectFB? There was also
an hinbt on building it in lenny.
My apologies, I put it on the back burner till I could verify some other
stuff that required booting into another system and I coompletely forgot
about this.
BTW: Gtk on DirectFB is used on debian for the graphical installer and
by some games too.
And I did know about the graphical installer as well, since there was a
thread recently about its future in 'squeeze' on the debian-boot list.

Too much multitasking and not enough sleep, I guess .. :-(
Thanks for the reminder.

I must say, I've been thrilled to read this thread as it has provided me
with some information that I was interested in doing with a future
project. I also wanted to add my $0.02 regarding QT. After searching a
little, I came across this link
http://labs.trolltech.com/page/Projects/Qtopia/DirectFB and thought I
would share it for all of those that might be interested in using it in
a DirectFB environment too. It appears to be able to use the most
current version of QT.
