I think a mailinglist is a must.
My experience with forums is they are more a place to chatter, and I
prefer my mutt mail interface anyway to whatever html pages.

Would google groups be a possibility, I wonder... I don't now if
importing the archive would be possible. I'll try to find out.

Depending on the traffic of the mailinglist and website I could host
those, although I gather the general preference is for the website (and
repository) to move to github. That's fine as far as I'm concerned.
