Actually (2am is too late to realistically expect me to read
fine print) I'm pretty sure you purchase the right to register
a domain name through OpenSRS at B to B pricing with lots of support.
I don't think you are resaling. This isn't really aftermarket either.
Oh *that's* right. It's an MSP thing :) See Ross for an exact definition.
I think a lot of people have this misconception, but I'd bet we all signed off
on it.

Who paid for the domain?
What does Network Solutions do when you register a domain and don't pay?
They take ownership.
What does Register.Com do when you register a domain, and it isn't paid for?
They keep the domain.
What does an RSP do when you register a domain and it isn't paid for? Let
OpenSRS keep the domain. (With no chance of reselling and recouping the
costs)
Has this been hashed out a million times? No. A thousand times? No. A
hundred times? Doubtful, but perhaps if you count individual messages, then
maybe...
Has it been "done to death"? Pretty much. The end result? OpenSRS wins,
the RSP loses, and the customer gets off scott free. Yippie. Will this keep
coming up? As long as OpenSRS continues to screw it's customers, yes.
Don't get me wrong, I love OpenSRS, I will continue to use OpenSRS, and I do
understand what's involved in doing business. Honestly, I don't really feel
screwed over in the grand scheme of things, it's only $10. But then, for
RSPs that charge $25ish for a regular domain registration, how hard is it to
sell "specialty domains" at $10 each, or even $5 each and recoup half the
costs? (And if it turns into a renewal, then maybe make some profit,
eventually)
You have to remember, we are *RE*sellers... We buy a product from OpenSRS,
and sell it to a customer. When the customer returns the product, we should
be able to resell it to someone else.
Sorry for the semi-rant, but things like this really do start to get
bothersome sometimes.
