Hello,

OpenSRS is currently offering you domain registration services and web
certificates on a silver platter. Where exactly does one draw the line on
services they provide. In your case it appears that you draw the line where
it is convenient for you.
> OpenSRS to provide them with a turn-key complete business, without any

I wonder if you understand how business works. The end product/service is
only a part of actually the actual selling.
There are:
-sales
-packaging
-marketing
-tech support
-customer service
-basic skills on how to run a business
(all off the above take time and money and skill to do right)
In the above list I have provide there is much opportunity for
differentiation. Contrary to what you seem to believe ... if you build it
the will *NOT* come. You have to tell them, follow up etc.

Domain registration is not my core business. It is VALUE added for what I do
(web design, custom programming) so spend all of my time actually doing the
work and trying to get new customers. So in my case it would be beneficial
if I had the extra services that were of high quality and dependable (like
opensrs would provide) and I did not have to worry about them. I have enough
to deal with as is.
> Having it all at OpenSRS, and you make all OpenSRS resellers "vanilla"

THEY HAVE TO SELL THE PRODUCT. THAT IS NOT A VERY EASY OR CHEAP THING TO DO
RIGHT. Also with all your "technical" skills I am sure you will find some
other way to differentiate your service.
> It's not improving, its encroachment. They start competing with their

Encroachment of what? You must not understand what I mean by extra services.
I am talking about simple complimentary services like: domain forwarding,
under construction pages, and simple email forwarding i.e.
<anything>@newdomain.com forwards to some email address. Please do not
exaggerate this to: "hey if opensrs does that ... what is to stop them from
...." (taking over the world :D)
> So go use them, or learn how to offer the services yourself.
If it is that easy then what is the issue with OpenSRS providing this? If
your so-called difference from other resellers is something that "only"
takes a couple hours work per week then it is not much of a differentiator
... find something else.
> I strongly disagree. The only ones at a disadvantage are those
> resellers who don't have the technical knowledge to do it themselves.
It seems you cannot follow simple logic
if all OpenSRS resellers are given more out the box features to compete
with, it follows that OpenSRS resellers should do better as a whole.
If OpenSRS resellers do better, then OpenSRS the company does better
(I cannot make this any simpler)
It seems your selfish views might be blinding you. Although I guess I do not
blame you. Part of business is protecting whatever advantage you think you
have ...
> You will see that theme in my posts. DO IT YOURSELF. You are asking
> someone else to do the work for you, when these are things that you
> can so yourself, or hire someone to do for you.
Very circular logic here. If I wanted to hire someone to do the work why not
ask OpenSRS (which I am)? Makes much more sense ... they understand exactly
how to make the new services work with the existing code ... plus they would
provide great support as well (if they continue their current trend)
later
