As Bill already told you: because it may have broken the last line of defense which was server monitoring. With Sitefinder the monitoring doesn't show any problem if the domain is expired or lost the nameservers. I think we all agree that it's the fault of the owner firsthand, but the Sitefinder service may have "helped" to not identify it *in-house*. Nobody knows what really happened, but consider the many clueless owners of domains and how a still (to Sitefinder) resolving domain can complicate any issues for them.
