I even agree with that opinion: two spaces is not useful for anything
rendered by a reasonably advanced system.  However, there's a corollary
to that:  any such system will already be able to deal with either one
or two spaces between sentences, and normalize it to something that is
correct for that system.  i.e., to anyone using such a system, having
two spaces will not matter a whit.  People not using such a system
will appreciate the two spaces.  (Well, we old geezers who learned
that way, anyway.  Perhaps there is a more modern opinion that is
actually a back-formation resulting from the use of more capable
smarter display systems.)

PPS: for another pedantic opinion, I've always wished this list
were named something more representative than "discuss-list"
