I second Gimp and Inkscape, beautiful programs. I haven't found a satisfying floss desktop publishing software. I have tried Scribus and have yet to get the hang of it. Anyone raving over Scribus?

We're going to try to include things from our classes, but there are lots of other useful packages that are more general - do you have any suggestions? Here's our list so far: DrJava (sucks, but is used for a class) OCaml (+ ledit ocaml, omake) Eclipse LaTeX, and some useful extra packages there (which ones?)
