Be wary of that page, it's actually out of date!

Rather than:
$head->register_js("jquery.js");

You now just use
$head->js("jquery.js");

Basicly, knock register_ off any calls and your fine.  However after
all your calls, you need to do:

$head->registered();

This will "render" all the scripts and css files you add.
