For me it was the visualizer. Open amarok, and look for the fancy animation responsible :-). If you click on the visualizer it should cycle between the available options. Keep on clicking and you will eventually be rewarded with plain, un-animated text: "Click for Analysers". That got it down to 8 wakeups on my computer, when it's not playing anything. I think theres a patch floating around for amarok which won't get into the kde3 version, but might be accepted for kde4.
