Hello everyone.
I had been having some power management issues in linux as of late (currently
using Ubuntu Hardy Heron), and happily, I read about PowerTOP in a linux
magazine that I ran across. I decided to try it out, and overall I think my
battery performance has improved. Unfortunately, after one of the changes that
related to saving power used by my DVD-ROM drive, the drive has ceased working.
Whenever I try to use it, I get a message saying that the drive cannot be
mounted. When I click on "Details", I get this message:
mount: block device /dev/scd0 is write-protected, mounting read-only mount:
wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/scd0, missing codepage or
helper program, or other error In some cases useful info is found in syslog -
try dmesg|tail or so
So then I tried dmesg|tail, which gave me this:
[ 3272.820421] psmouse.c: Failed to reset mouse on isa0060/serio1
[ 3272.834021] psmouse.c: TouchPad at isa0060/serio4/input0 lost sync at byte 1

[ 3272.997724] psmouse.c: Failed to enable mouse on isa0060/serio1
[ 3276.074717] UDF-fs: No fileset found
So, I'm wondering how I might go about fixing this. I'm new to Linux but not to
troubleshooting in general. I'm sure this is just some config file somewhere
that I need to alter, but I don't know what that file is, or exactly what I'm
looking for. Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated.
