I actually had a wireless USB capable monitor by Samsung, specifically one of these: http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/pc-peripherals/monitors/gaming/LC24B750XS/EN The monitor contains a wireless USB hub, a built-in Ethernet NIC, audio ports and wireless video transfer capability. Take out your laptop, place it on the desk and without having to attach any cables, the laptop locates the monitor and wirelessly connects to it, sort of like a docking station. This did require a USB dongle on the laptop with proprietary drivers though, so I'm not sure how much of this was standardized.
