Do you know of any way to install on a system with this CPU?
I recently installed a8 on a tiny 32bit Compaq Deskpro EN to replace
Solaris 10 (which worked fine on the system). The system is used as a
console server (running conserver with a multi-port serial card). I also
took the opportunity to change the IDE disk to a mirrored pair of
Compactflash cards(which didn't work well on Solaris 10, but works
perfectly on Illumos).
There were two problems IIRC:
1) Illumos is picking upcompletely wrong number of CPUs from somewhere
(system is single CPU, but illumos thinks it's 32).
2) A spew of messages which continues forever and prevents any further
progress at boot:
APIC Error interrupt on CPU 0. Status 0 = 0, Status 1 = 4
Adding "-B boot-ncpus=1" to the kernel$ grub line fixed at least 1).
This can me made permanent with the command "eeprom boot-ncpus=1".
I think I had to disable something in the BIOS to fix 2, possibly the
APIC, but I don't have access to the BIOS to check that out right now.
The biggest problem is that although Solaris itself works fine in 512MB,
the pkg(1) command has a larger working set size than this, and any pkg
operations take hours whilst the system thrashes - I left them to run
overnight.
