selected.  I expected this with S10_u8, but I also am
encountering it with oi151_a8 booted into the LiveDVD
environment.  Selecting the Hitachi 3 TB disk currently
installed I can verify the label on it.

 format crashing is unexpected
and should not happen... does it create a core file you can
 put somewhere to share?

The core file is 1.7 MB gzipped. Does anyone want me to mail it to them? I
don't have an ftp server I can stick it on. This one was done using the
LiveDVD. I can do an install on a spare hard drive if anyone thinks that might
make a difference. There is the possibility that an sd.conf entry would solve
the problem on OI.

NB I formatted the 3 TB Hitachi drive on OI, so I don't understand why it
fails on the 3 TB Seagate. However, that was a protracted ordeal. The
original drive was a 512 sector unit, but the RMA replacement was a 4k sector
unit that reported 512. But as I recall I didn't have any issues labeling the
drive using OI.

Curiously after my various fiddles and reboots, I can now see all the HDs and
the DVD.
