OI repository (https://github.com/OpenIndiana/pkg5) has some illumos-specific fixes. We try work on IPS in cooperation with OmniOS developers. You can see their fork at https://github.com/omniti-labs/pkg5 . Of course, we would like XstreamOS developers to join our efforts, but I can't suggest you to throw away your fork. Note, that our current IPS is a bit outdated (last resync with upstream was last summer).
