Update

I am working on some bootable and preconfigured systemimages
for a ready to use ZFS web-appliance storage server.

I have created a first 32GB image for this board that can be restored via CloneZilla to a 512n or 512e DOM or SSD systemdisk (I used the 512e Intel S3510 to create the image)

This makes installation easier, especially with this board that does not
support booting from the OmniOS USB installer.

The image enables any nics automatically on bootup in dhcp mode,
root pw is set to none, TLS mail is enabled (Gmail), OS tuning with my base tuning set. As the X550 is not yet supported :-(( i added an Intel i210 nic in the meantime to the board.

Image and howto, see http://napp-it.org/downloads/index_en.html
its free

thank sall
I was now able to boot and install OmniOS 151016when

- using a CD with the .iso
- using an Sata CD drive

bios settings
- Advanced > Boot: Install Windows 7 USB support: enabled
- Boot > Boot mode: Legacy

When I tried with an USB CD drive, setup failed as well
so this is definitly an USB problem (yes, I used the USB2 ports)

Without the Windows 7 support setting, I was able to boot up to
the screen with the keyboard selector but then the keyboard was not working.

As these boards do not have ps/2 connectors for a keyboard
you must care about this setting

Another hint may give Solaris 11.3
After the probing for device nodes, it reports
not a UFS magic number
0x0
0x0
0xd8d06ca1
0x24023f23
0x0

(not sure if this is helpful)

Hope that this can be fixed as these socket 1151 boards will become very common
as well as support for the onboard Intel X550 10G nic

Please see if your BIOS has a "USB2 backward compatibility" setting of some sort? If it does, please set it. There's no XHCI support in illumos currently.
I looked at the product page:

Sorry for not reading that. I'm assuming you're using one of the USB2.0 ports for booting? If not, please use one.
