G'day

Thanks for your answers - it has initiated an interesting informal
discussion on IRC #nexenta including people from:

- Nexenta Systems (lindakateley, Triskelios and andy_js)
- OI (Alasdairrrr, aszeszo),
- NCP users and package builders (TekniX and myself)
- StormOS (andy_js)

Thanks all of you for sharing your ideas and expectations!

The original idea was to condense the results in a message to the
list but since it got quite exhaustive and 2 of us believed later it should
be good to get give Nexenta the chance to verifiy we understood them
corectly
and Nexenta as a whole knows what the want to do in this area.
Thank you Linda for offering check with the company / engineering.

But at least I'd like to show you that we have discovered 3 parties in this
discussion:
- OpenIndiana users with IPS packaging: Happy with their package choice, IPS
and a more unix-ish userland
- Nexenta Systems:
 - Want a illumos build for their Product with DPKG packaging,
 - Some (core? ) packages taken from OI.
 - The interest for dpkg is also (but not only) based on established
knowhow, teams and processes at Nexenta systems
- NexentaCore users: This is a group of people who became interested in
illumos via the bridge offered by NexentaCore because of its
Debian-similar environment with the great illumos experience. - And they
are happy like the OI users/devs with their choice

Over the course of the discussion we came to the point where we think a more
Debian-ish distribution has a group of interested
people after a Post-NCP3 era and we might have found a possibility for
paving the the next steps.

>From my side I'll update you once Linda gets stuff from Nexenta side cleared
up on monday.

Best regards
Mathieu
