I canot speak for Illumos, but SchilliX-ON is frequently compiled on a SPARC 
system to grant sparc compatibility. 

There is however a problem resulting from the fact that Sun removed some code 
to support specific Sparc hardware and the current code only supports sun4v 
systems. I believe that this code for older hardware should be retrieved back
into the source base. If you like to volunteer for this task, you are welcome.
