Have a look at SmartOS. It's a flavor if Illumos, but designed to provide just server functions. My guess is that most of what you are wanting to do could be done with SmartOS Smart Machines (i.e, Zones). It can also do KVM, but you'll need a fairly current Intel CPU to support this. Joyent has done a very good job at creating a server distro that does its job well.
