My guess is that some important property is missing. Its possible that this is
specific to USB 3, but I wonder if it might be something else? I don’t have one
to play with, so I can’t really look, but I’d have a close look at other disks
and compare device tree values — especially the populated device properties. I
suspect that’s where you’re going to find the problem.

Is it possible to point format at the raw /devices/ nodes? (Do the minor nodes
themselves actually exist?)

yes, it's as if it's not creating the devlinks.
The devfsadm -i sd didn't work either.

From dmesg, it's missing the "scsi" line like "sd? at scsa2usb0"
Who's responsible for this?
Also cfgadm shows no dev (usb4/2):

sonicle@xstreamserver:/var/adm# cfgadm

I don’t see anything fundamentally wrong here… it looks like
scsa2usb at least sees it.

It feels like devfsadm or the devlinks stuff isn’t working. Try devfsadm
-i sd ?

Hi,

a customer bought a UBS3 Tohsiba external disk, and plugged it on an
XStream/illumos machine.
What happens is:
- can't see the device through rmformat (just the dvdrom)
- can't see the device through format -e (just the internal sas disks)
- the device shows on cfgadm as "usb4/2 usb-storage connected configured ok"

/var/adm/message shows:

May 12 08:44:38 xstreamserver usba: [ID 912658 kern.info] USB 2.10 device
(usb480,a00d) operating at hi speed (USB 2.x) on USB 2.0 root hub: storage@2,

/pci@0,0/pci15d9,d880@1a,7/storage@2 (scsa2usb0) online

I want to create a zpool on it for backups, what device should I use? Why not
showing on format?

Gabriele.
