The following illumos distro failed to boot: - SmartOS-20170913 failed with message "Error 28: Selected item cannot fit into memory - OI-hipster-20170502 failed with message "No rootfs module provided, aborting..." - OmniOSce-r151022i failed with message "No rootfs module provided, aborting..." USB images used for all the three distro and each of the above boot failure happened when loading boot_archive!
System config: AMD Ryzen 3 1300X, Crucial DDR4 16GB x1, Asus Prime A320-MK, Asus nVidia GT710 DDR3 1GB, Sandisk SSD 120GB. This system SSD booted Windows and USB booted Linux Mint without any problem! Workarounds attempted in BIOS, but failed: - updated to latest version - enabled CPU virtualization - enabled legacy boot support - disabled Fast Boot Tried the SmartOS GRUB2 <https://wiki.smartos.org/display/DOC/Booting+SmartOS+from+GRUB2> method where "Error 28..." did not appear but system silently restarted after "SunOS 5.11 ..." startup message! The same USB key (for all the distro) booted successfully in a Core i5 laptop, though! Haven't tried iso booting since I don't have a DVD drive. Initially tried with SmartOS only and posted to smartos-list, then thought of giving other distros a try and problem seems to be with the kernel (or my system)?!. Hence posting here. Please have a look at the attached camshots for more info. PS: I'm no kernel hacker but have a basic knowledge of Unix environment. Willing to test any test-images w.r.t. this problem, of course with your guidance :) Thanx, Ganapathy ------------------------------------------ illumos-discuss Archives: https://illumos.topicbox.com/groups/discuss/discussions/Tb342e2cdbf33d692-M22b13b2cb45add8081632a41 Powered by Topicbox: https://topicbox.com
