Just curious: what (class of) metadata is missing I'm running split-root on multiple distros since Solaris 10. Yes it does need special setup (documented on Wiki) for dependencies of ksh on OI and OmniOS, so they would all be in /sbin and /lib, and I do that bit manually - but I believe it can be done in IPS by putting those files to different paths (recipe issue, not engine/format issue, AFAIU). The pkg update's mostly don't care, there's little change in those bits. Then again, these systems are managed by my scripts for split-root mounting and upgrade support, which call on standard OS tools in a specially orchestrated manner.
