Don Norman's assertion that needs follow technology would explain why so many 
people don't even see the potential need for something even when they are 
presented with it. Think about the computer executive who said "Why would 
anyone want a personal computer in their home?" Or "If God had meant for us to 
fly, he would have give us tickets."

I would go as far as suggesting that we not only think of needs after the fact 
but most of the time we have a hard time even seeing the need for something new.
