Yup.

Adding insult to injury, this was a unique host so I couldn't grab
/bin from somewhere else and I'd never had need to recover stuff from
tape. Thankfully at some point one of the operators had showed me how
to load a reel to reel tape and where the stored them.

Oh, and my $HOME was local to the host, some long running jobs were
writing to $HOME over nfs, it was around midnight when I found out,
and I had a meeting with my thesis advisor in the morning...
