This is true. However, I am finding more and more that the telnet client is not
installed on boxes whereas nc (on Linuxen anyway) nearly always is. I've been
trying to retrain my fingers to reach for nc intead of telnet. The fact that
telnet is insecure in some (now rare) use cases (any time you enter a password)
is just one more reason to let it go.
