I bought one of these 18 months ago: Brother MFC9460CDN Color Photo Printer with Scanner, Copier & Fax
Works well with linux and windows. I got annoyed with ink cartridges drying up. I also wanted automatic duplex and fax ability. I setup 4 printers so I don't have to mess with settings each time I print: 1. B&W Single 2. B&W Duplex 3. Colour Single 4. Colour Duplex I chose Brother since it was cheaper than HP but still had good quality. Replacement cartridges are reasonable as well. It is a little loud when you first turn it on though. It has a "deep sleep" mode which shouldn't use much power, but I have never checked how much it consumes.
