Alan and Matt,

Thanks for the quick responses. I was a bit unclear by 'client based'. I
don't want to run an inventory server on my laptop. I'm not looking to host
a WampServer just to do asset tracking.

Kuwaiba requires a connection to a host server. Spiceworks comes with
Network Administration and Help Desk bloat.

In a previous position I worked with Wasp (http://waspbarcode.com).
Although it could be installed on a server, it also worked from a desktop.
It was basically a pre-configured Access database with a proprietary
barcode reader. Relationships between Users, Computers, and Software can
all be connected.

I'd use Access but the time commitment to properly create a database
doesn't justify itself. It would be better served creating a halfway decent
spreadsheet.

Thanks,
Evan
