Some other things you might consider among the many activities:
1. Watch the Senate in action
Go to your congress critter's office, see if you can get a pass into Senate or
House debates. This wil date me, but I remember doing just that to see Sam Nunn
debate and defend the START treaty, live in Senate chambers.
2. SCOTUS oral arguments
The Supremes are in session. Visitors can observe oral arguments :

Finally, I've personally never tired of the open air monuments, I find them
particularly inspiring during the evening hours. Especially the Lincoln
Memorial, but also the WW2, Korean War, and Vietnam memorials, and now the MLK
and FDR ones. All of these are on the west end of the mall.
