I picked up a used Cisco Catalyst 2970G-24T switch (24 GE ports;
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/switches/catalyst-2970g-24t-switch/model.html)
 for $99 plus shipping on eBay. Quick search shows they are now ~ $200 on eBay.
Cisco provides software free of charge for their switches. Gives you a bunch of
features. You just have to be ok with EOL hardware. It's working great for my
home use.
