I agree with Chris. It started in 2008, with Jordan Sissel taking
inspiration from the Perl Advent Calendar (http://www.perladvent.org/). The
idea is that the community should come together and build high quality
content, with one post per day, through the normal advent calendar
(although there's no religious undertones to anything at all, it's just an
excuse to get people together), along with a "bonus" entry on the 25th.

I've contributed a couple of things to it over the years, and I'm really
glad to see that it's still going. Now is the time to get involved with the
process, because it fills up relatively quickly (at least, it has the past
couple of years).
