I believe there is and always will be highly inelastic demand for some open source cloud orchestration service, from at least two sectors: companies who have data that they deem too dangerous to host on the public cloud (finance, health services, etc.) and companies that aren't comfortable putting all of their eggs in baskets they do not directly control (and particularly not in a basket controlled by a competitor).

It doesn't necessarily have to be OpenStack that wins the "open source AWS alternative" battle, but I don't see anybody else who's in a stronger position.

I've heard from multiple people, who I respect greatly, that OpenStack is going to die off, but I just don't see it. The modern IT infrastructure is heavily populated with products and technologies that were a really bad idea in their original release. So, while I think OpenStack has some serious problems, I think it is going to be around for quite a while.

I would like to hear what a number of other folks who I respect think.
