I'm evaluating proposals for new SAN storage for our HPC cluster. My requirements aren't fancy (~6TB SSD, ~80TB spinning rust, FC & iSCSI connectivity, redundant controllers, no need for tiering, replication, snapshots). Most of the responses to the RFP are pretty similar in terms of hardware, performance specs, etc. One proposed system is based on an Infortrend DS4016 array & attached JBOD, and has a much (much, I mean _much_) lower cost. The various resellers are making very strongly worded & weakly supported claims as to why their storage is worth a premium price, or why their storage is just as good at a much lower price. In an attempt to get out of the storage reseller twilight zone, I'd really like to hear from anyone who has had first-hand experience with Infortrend products (bonus points if you've had any issues requiring support).
