imho not: this is free software - free as freedom to choose, what you want to choose > For example, I am working on the Gentoo-GIS repository and this could > also be taken in consideration. > My sentence was referred to the Ubuntu topic, and related to the fact > that right now you are the only one that manage the Ubuntu software > repository certainly not ;-) > and probably an hand would be useful. always :-D Imho, rather than provide any kind of repositories - at least not for those operating systems / their distributions and clons, OSGeo should focuse on pushing fresh versions to new Linux releases. Sometimes, the people who are completing stable distributions better leave our GIS packages, because they look to fresh and untested to them. OSGeo task should be to press on this people to include fresh GIS software to distros. I hope, you understand, what I would like to express :-) There is no need for new special repositories. Maybe it makes sense for backports. Of course, one place, where Windows users could get all the FOSS4G stuff would be good :-) Jachym > > Bye > > Luca > > Il giorno ven, 26/10/2007 alle 11.09 +0200, Jachym Cepicky ha scritto: > > hi, > > > > the idea is nice, however, the organization never makes the packages - > > the people always do. > > > > imho, unless you do not want Ubuntu to became *the* osgeo distribution, > > you must not ignore other distributions. > > > > why should e.g. frankie (the grass debian package maintainer - many > > thanks!) work under osgeo head, if he did so till now as official Debian > > maintainer?
