I'm making a separate thread so as not to interfere with the discussion
about the updated student policy section of the policy page. I've proposed
some changes to other sections that I noticed were out of date, mostly from
our time at Adelaide.

>From the "Policy" page on the wiki (http://wiki.skullspace.ca/Policy):

Safety

Original text:
- Members may not make use of tools in the workshop area without permission
from the Operations Manager or a member with appropriate training and
authority (as authorized by the Operations Manager).
- Guests may not use the workshop area.
- Members and guests should be cautious of debris and other hazards
(especially during renovations).
- A sign-in sheet will be implemented soon, to clarify which member is
accepting responsibility for the guest during their visit, and to indicate
the the guest releases SkullSpace from liability for any harm they may come
to during their visit.

Suggested changes:
1. I propose that we update this section to remove references to the old
position of Operations Manager.
2. Are the first two points still relevant? I believe they were more
suitable for when we had power tools. Today the most dangerous equipment we
have are the soldering irons (I think), and we let guests use them when
they ask. Perhaps we could combine and revise the first two points to read
"Guests may use the workshop space and equipment upon a member vouching for
their ability to use the equipment." I think this would be equivalent to a
member bringing in a friend who needs to fix, say, a capacitor on a circuit
board and that friend gets permission to use the equipment from the member.
3. There is a double "the" in the fourth point ("and to indicate the the
guest...") Also was this sign-up sheet ever implemented? If not, I propose
we delete the fourth point, as the status-quo situation of taking a member
on their word as vouching for a guest seems to be working well.

Security

Original text:
- The last person to leave the space is responsible for ensuring that all
doors are locked, including the elevator gates & doors.
- Members should also ensure when they leave that any remaining people in
SkullSpace are either members of SkullSpace or authorized guests. Any
member may request to see another person's keyfob to verify they are a
current member.
- The main door of the building should be left locked, except during the
hours that the Cre8ary is open (if it is locked, leave it locked; if it is
unlocked, leave it unlocked).
-- Now that we have transitioned to keyfobs, we no longer have the ability
to set the state (locked/unlocked) of the building door, since a physical
key is required to do this.
-- It should not be a problem to us if the door is always locked, as guests
and members can phone SkullSpace or a director to be let in with a key if
necessary.
If you notice the building is unlocked at an unusual time (outside of our
neighbours' business hours, 5am-9am), please advise the Operations Manager
to have him determine if we need to act to lock the door.

Suggested changes:
1. Delete the third point, "The main door of the building should be left
locked, except during the hours that the Cre8ary is open (if it is locked,
leave it locked; if it is unlocked, leave it unlocked)."
2. Delete the entire fourth point and subpoints about the door being locked
and revise to "For member safety, the second-floor door leading to
SkullSpace is always locked, except during public open hours or for
scheduled events. A member keyfob is required to gain access outside of
these hours. Guests are able to ring the doorbell outside of the main floor
building door."

If there are no objections, I would be happy to make these changes with
general approval.
