A while ago I started labelling some of the tools (so far just 3D printer and hot air rework station) with information about ownership and training requirements[1]. I modelled our system off that of Pumping Staion One. The idea there is tools vary quite a bit in requirements. The rework station is basically "use if you feel comfortable", but the 3D printer is "only use if one of the other people trained on it's use has shown you how to use it". We could push to label more of our equipment (eg. the drill press) with such information, and update the policy to direct people to each tool's documentation.
