First, I'm obligated to say that neither calling somebody out as a jack-ass on the mailing list, or reviewing security footage to find the right person to blame, are constructive or excellent was of making sure this doesn't happen again.
I wouldn't expect many of our newer members to know how to turn off the AC, let alone think of it before leaving after a long winter without it. At the very least I'll put up a sign the next time I'm at the space. If anybody wants to try their own solutions to this problem (motion sensor, timer, etc.) - let me know.
