Tl;dr air conditioning needs to be left on to work.

Didn't we do this discussion to death last summer. We are either going to
try to air condition the space (which I fully support) or we're not. If we
are going to use the air conditioner then it should be set to a reasonable
temp (say 25) and alowed to cycle on and off as required. Walking into a
35+ deg space and running the a/c for 2 hours is a waste because it will
have almost no effect on the temperature, for this reason I think a timer
is the wrong solution. If we are going to try to open windows at night and
close them again first thing in the morning (that second part is
imperative) then we want to turn off the a/c at night and back on in the
morning. For this I think a set back thermostat would work best.

Isn't the problem we had that someone set the thermostat too low and left
it that way, so it got way too cold in the space. If the space was already
a comfortable temp when people walked in they wouldn't mess with thermostat.
/rant

As far as cost, I'm willing to donate towords the power bill in order to
have a comfortable and usable space. Anyone else?
