Looks like your slimserver is struggling to find socketwrapper.exe.
Are you using a 6.0+ server? If not could you install try Alien 0.95 or earlier which includes this file.

Thanks for the response. Have unzipped the Alient distribution again, but still getting the same symptoms.
When I start Slimserver as suggested, I get:
Use of uninitialized value in concatenation (.) or string at /PerlApp/Slim/Player/Pipeline.pm line 58. Use of uninitialized value in subroutine entry at /PerlApp/Slim/Player/Pipeline.pm line 70.
Any ideas?
