No flames here but an easy way to prove that at least the FLAC decoding is lossless - it requires an HDCD-encoded track and an HDCD decoder connected digitally to an SB. If you play back an HDCD-encoded track in FLAC to an HDCD decoder connected digitally, you will get the HDCD indicator to light up. You need to have digital volume at 100% and no ReplayGain. If this process was lossy at any point in the chain, this couldn't happen. Turn RG on or adjust the digital volume and the HDCD indicator goes away. I believe you can also do this with Dolby Digital and DTS-encoded files, but you have to do some special things to the WAV file in order to get the SB to relay it to the outboard decoder. Still, a single bit error will screw this up and it doesn't. -- Mark Lanctot Current: SB2, Transporter, Boom (PQP3 - late beta) Stored: Boom (PQP1 - early beta), SBC (beta - no battery) Sold: SB3, Duet ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mark Lanctot's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2071 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=55137 _______________________________________________ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
