Regardless of what you end up with as far as powered speakers, you can
still run audio out directly from the Mac with the appropriate cables
or plug adapters.  That's by far the simplest approach.

Or you could use a Touch with an external USB drive.  Make sure you
test it first before leaving home to be sure that it works and that you
understand most of the idiosyncrasies of the system.
