I have to say that I like the idea of your previous post, if it also
supported artist images and made it possible to browse artists in
similar fashion it would be even better.
However, I would like to have more ways to find relations, like similar
artists, followers and also stuff like same style/mode/bpm.
The issue with all this I think is if you like to support MySB, third
party plugins and all the other stuff supported by SqueezePlay. I have
a feeling you might need to select path.
You can select to follow the path of Logitech and then you will more or
less be limited to what standard SqueezePlay supports, this is how iPeng
for iPhone works today. iPeng for iPhone has of course added some extra
features but it's more or less just a better implementation of
SqueezePlay user interface that can be used on the iPhone. The
advantage of this path is that when Logitech adds an extra server
feature or a new third party plugin is released, you basically gets it
for free in the iPad app.
The other path is to create something new and better, something which
Logitech can't easily provide because they are restricted to also make
SqueezePlay support Radio and Controller with small screens and no
touch controls. On this road I believe it would be possible create
something really good that takes these products to the next step. The
only issue is that it's going to be a lot of work because you basically
have to redo a lot of stuff that already exists. You can probably forget
about supporting MySB in a solution like this but I'm not sure that's a
big problem at least not for me personally.
I'm guessing that a new iPeng for iPad might be a mix of both these
strategies, you will be a bit restricted to what SqueezePlay offers but
you get the advantage that you get some stuff for free when its
implemented on the server. The protocol used by SqueezePlay is probably
also a bit more stable than other protocols not used by Logitech
internally.
I had some plan to get into this iPad app business myself, but I've
temporarily dropped the idea since SqueezePad was released. I might
take it up in the future again but at the moment I'd like to wait and
see what pippin(iPeng) and bluegaspode(SqueezePad) will to see if
something else is really needed.
