I believe if your receiver does ANY digital processing of your signal,
then it would be best to send it the digital signal, as otherwise it
will re-digitize the analog signal, process it, and convert back to
analog with its internal DACs anyway.  Most home theater receivers have
an option to run thru purely analog, but that limits your options.  I'm
not sure, but I think even the crossover to create LF outs to the
subwoofer end up going through digital processing for most HT
receivers.
