The fewer D-A / A-D conversions the better, so keep your signal path in ones and zeros until the last possible moment. The only exception might be if you had a very high end system with an audiophile quality D-A converter and a specific analoug stage to add warmth. But if your system is consumer grade then digital to the end is best.
