Basically it is just stronger excryption than WPA.

However, WPA, (unlike the older WEP standard) is still secure. So it is
not strictly necessary to upgrade from WPA to WPA2/AES. Also it is an
optional part of the 802.11g spec, thus not all (or even most?) 802.11g
devices support it.
