Hi pixelpopper, I just digged through my support cases and found another user with a Synology DS207+ He reported 'hiccups' when starting WAV/Flac songs as well - and these were noticable as well when he used the software SqueezePlay (see below).
You wrote that you have a Synology DS209, which - if I googled it right - has got a 1,2Mhz processor which is twice the power of a Synology DS207+. Can you check the Synology for its processor and network traffic graphs? Also I'm interested in the following tests: - do you have some mp3? Does the same happen here (latency when showing the bigger coverart). - do you have a spare wired laptop? Please install the software 'SqueezePlay' on it (see the bottom files of http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/?ver=7.5) and do your tests there. SqueezePlay is the firmware of the Radio/Touch/Controller and we should consider it as the 'reference' implementation.
