OK, I bypassed the UPS, turned on my iPad and . . . NO YELLOW FLASHES! So I plugged everything back in the UPS and STILL NO FLASHES. Obviously, to do this I had to perform a power down (rather than merely a reboot). That appears to have solved the problem. I hope it is a permanent fix.
