You have to kill scanner.exe manually. Set scan logging to Debug and check the log file.
To do this in the gui, go to Settings, the Advanced tab, then select Logging in the drop down list. Then go down to "(scan) - All Scan Logging" and set it to Debug. Now perform a "clear and rescan" and check the log file when it starts on the art work and hangs.
