So here we go:

Uninstall 7.5.6-32834 <including prefs/logs>

Download 7.6.1-32969.exe <4 Aug>

Restart computer and log-in; open shared folder t: and supply
password.

Install 7.6.1-32969

Initial scan finds 23 files in \users\...\music

Open control app & disable iTunes: apply

Go to status tab and return to library tab: disable iTunes change
verified.

On library tab/music folder/browse: no drive T:. Manually key T:\music
and click apply. SBS reports invalid audiodir. Click browse again and
key T:\ into "folder" field. T: directories are displayed. Selected
music and OK. Library pane shows t:\music as music folder. Click apply.
Go to Status tab and return to library tab. Music folder is now again
\users\...\music.

Stop SBS/start SBS and open control app.

Same behavior as above.

Change SBS to "do not start" and turn-off UAC and restart computer.

Repeat of above except SBS "sees" the T: drive and allows me to select
"t:\music" as the music folder. Clear and rescan starts as expected.

See the first attachment: Pre-caching was stuck at 37 after only a few
seconds.

Second attachment shows Scanner.exe churning right along at around 50%
of CPU.

So I powered-down the T: drive <which holds the music> and Scanner.exe
doesn't seem to care..

Also attached are the server and scanner logs. I have a windows dump of
the scanner process if anyone's interested-
